The Backstory
The thick volumes of spiritual writings in Kannada, that my mother owned, always seemed out of my league. My retirement plan was to have my mother read them aloud so that I would get some idea of the wisdom that they held. But, that was not to be.
My mother’s demise before my ‘retirement’ meant that the books became mine to read. Daunted, I gave away many books but did hold on to a few, though I had no hope of reading them back then. In 2021, I gingerly opened a copy of Vaadiraja Tirtha’s Rugmineeshavijaya (with explanations and interpretations). To my surprise, I was able to read fluidly and even understand most of it!
This new-found ability to read and understand Kannada text, and a random question asked by a cousin two decades ago, kindled a desire to pen little write ups of whatever spiritual books I read and liked, in English. I called them ‘Adhyatmachutuke’ which translates roughly to ‘Spiritual Nugget’. What started as emails and messages to a small group of friends and family has grown into this website, offering ease of access to current and previous articles.
