Vijaya Daasa Part 4

The various lives of Bhrigu

Bhrigu Rishi has taken birth in every yuga, in order to serve the Lord, in his various avataaras. In Treta Yuga, he was a Vaanara named Suraleela. In Dwaapara Yuga, he was born a Yadava, named Nikampa, in the clan of Krishna. In Kali Yuga, he was born as a calf amongst the cattle owned by Srinivasa Nayaka and then as his youngest son, Madhwapathi.

Bhrigu and Yama Dharmaraaya

Vijaya Daasa rescued a destitute widow about to end her life and her sickly child’s. He named the child Mohana. The boy grew up to become Mohana Daasa. When Vijaya Daasa set out for Kashi, a third time, he drew aside Mohana Daasa’s wife and told her that her husband was destined to have an ‘apamruthyu’. He instructed her to keep the body from being cremated as he would ensure that Mohana got to lead a full life. As predicted, Mohana Daasa passed away suddenly, while Vijaya Daasa was at Kashi. His wife did not let anyone move the body and waited a full 36 hours.

In the meantime, Bhrigu stormed into Yama Dharmaraaya’s presence, declared that a mistake had been made and demanded that the soul be returned to Mohana’s body. Elsewhere on Earth, Mohana opened his eyes, as if from deep sleep.

Prayer

Just as devotees pray to Raghavendra Tirtha by chanting Pujyaya Raghavendraya Satya Dharma Rathaya cha, Bhajatham Kalpa Vrukshaya Namatham Kamadhenuve, here’s a dhyaana shloka to pray to Vijaya Daasaru
