Madhwa Vijaya

Madhwa Vijaya is a biography of Jagadguru Madhwaachaarya (1238-1317), composed as a poem weaving together history and philosophy, by his disciple Naarayana Pandithaachaarya.

While most accounts of saints and philosophers are compilations of historical accounts, Madhwa Vijaya has the unique distinction of being written by a contemporary, thereby making it the most authentic account of Madhwaachaarya’s life, available to us.

The book is divided into 16 chapters, called sargas. It begins with the description of the first two avataaras of Vayu devaru, as Hanuman and Bheema. Tracing events that lead up to the birth of the Achaarya, it ends with his disappearance from the physical world.

While this English version follows the original in its essence, it is not a word for word translation. Some editorial discretion has been used to summarise certain concepts and to enhance readabilty.
