A Dozen Divine Ditties - Dwaadasha Naama
A Dozen Divine Ditties contain the nearest meanings in English of the twelve lyrical and joyful Sanskrit hymns collectively called the Dwaadasha Naama. These songs that laid the foundation of Carnatic music and contain the essence of Tattvavaada[^1] were composed, in different metres and tunes, by Madhwaachaarya, in the thirteenth century.

While the Kannada translation of the hymns by renowned scholar Bannanje Govindachaarya has eloquently conveyed the essence of the hymns in both meaning and melody owing to his spiritual genius, the same cannot be said of this author’s very basic translation to English.
